Kids Dental Care
The most effective preventative measures to help avoid it are:
- Good dental habits
- A healthy diet
- Regular dentist visits starting when your baby’s first tooth develops
On your child’s first visit to our Vaughan dental clinic, we will examine his or her teeth to see if they are showing early signs of cavities. We will then give you oral hygiene instructions and guidance regarding diet and nutrition, as well as recommended maintenance.
Teens and tweens often make or break good oral health habits during these crucial years. Unfortunately, they tend to have a higher rate of cavities due to sugary snacks and drinks. Since teeth are still developing and growing, we recommend twice-yearly visits to evaluate their teeth and gums carefully. They need to maintain excellent oral health care and regular dental appointments to help prevent tooth decay.
Throughout their lives, we want children to feel in charge of their oral health while following instructions from our dental team. But every child behaves differently when it comes to visiting the dentist and receiving dental treatments. While some have no trouble, others may become anxious and emotional during procedures. To help manage and assess your child’s anxiety level, we tell your child exactly what we are going to do and show them how it is done.
Our dentist also explains the recommended procedure to you, the parent or caregiver, so everyone understands and hopefully feels more comfortable. We may also recommend sedation therapy, such as a mild sedative or nitrous oxide (laughing gas) in the event your child is still worried and experiencing stress.
